About Us

Established in 1961 the society was formed to collect , preserve and promote articles and information of historical significance and interest associated with the settlement and development of the former Shire of Berwick (Now incorporated within the City of Casey and Cardinia Shire). The society continues to preserve articles and information of contemporary and historical interest.

We seek to promote awareness of our district's history through the acquisition, preservation and display of historical items; recording of older residents' knowledge; and undertaking research, publications and displays.

Collection

The Collection of the society includes items such as the original municipality, former businesses, personal items of early settlers and the war years, machinery and tools relating to early farming in the district and an extensive collection of books, photos and manuscripts.

Preservation

In keeping with the society's aim of preservation, a number of books have been published: Pictorial books - which preserve early pictures of people, properties and events; and books of local historical record which tell of the early settlers, towns and development of this diverse district.

Musuem

The society has, as its main location, the Federation era building that housed the offices of the former Shire of Berwick. Museum is a treasure trove of local history. Dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich heritage of the Berwick and Pakenham regions, the museum features a diverse collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents. Visitors can explore exhibits that tell the stories of early settlers, the development of the area, and the unique events that have shaped the community over the years.
